Assessment Value
The State Constitution requires all properties be assessed at “fair market” value. Therefore, it is essential to maintain assessments, keep up with market prices and cope with inflation. At times, market conditions warrant Revaluation or Reassessment programs to maintain “fair market value”.

If a homeowner feels their property is over-assessed, they may file an appeal with the~Hunterdon County Board of Taxation~by calling (908) 788-1173. The annual deadline to file an appeal with the County Board is April 1. Note that appeals are based on the value of your property, not the taxes.

Senior Citizens, Disabled Persons
Annual deduction of up to $250 from property taxes for homeowners age 65 or older or disabled who meet certain income and residency requirements. This benefit is administered by the local municipality. Please provide copies of the first~two~pages of your most recent Federal Tax 1040s.

Property Tax Exemption for Disabled Veterans
Full exemption from property taxes on a principal residence for certain totally and permanently disabled war veterans and their unmarried surviving spouses/surviving civil union partners/surviving domestic partners. Unmarried surviving spouses/surviving civil union partners/surviving domestic partners of servicepersons who died on wartime active duty may also qualify. This benefit is administered by the local municipality.
